OSHA and ANSI set the laws and standards (ANSI B30.5 and OSHA 1926.1400), these laws include crane operator certification. NCCCO tests your knowledge, skills, and abilities to see if you meet the minimum competency requirements set forth by OSHA. If you are successful you get certified (not qualified). There is also an additional step OSHA requires prior to operating a crane. “Employer Qualification” of operator which requires written documentation of the operators competence with a particular machine in a particular configuration. This helps ensure unqualified operators are not beyond their limits. American Crane School offers mobile telescopic crane operator certification through the NCCCO.
